UPDATE!

I found Selma on the coop floor, being pecked at, with wounds mainly on her right wing...needless to say I scooped her right up and brought her inside. She's in a large cat carrier with all the necessities, but I feel bad for her there!
Yesterday morning I heard it...slight wheezing. Lethargic and discharge from her nostrils confirmed it; she's sick. Is this why she's molting? So now I've got her on antibiotics.
This morning, I took her out to stretch and she walked around a lot more than she has in the last 48hrs...so hopefully she's going in the right direction.
Keep your fingers crossed and I will update with a pathetic photo later.

2011 brings first molt

My poor Selma. A couple of days ago, I thought I might have lost a chicken due to predator....nope, all were accounted for. It was just Selma losing tons of feathers. I read on BYC.com that some can go completely bare and others have had theirs die due to how hard a molt they had and what time of year it was.... I'm not going to let that happen!!!!

Snow Hens

It's been a while since I updated... sorry!

I took some pics of the girls today, enjoying the sun.

Still getting at least 5 eggs a day, with many 8 egg days (out of 8 girls).

Not bad girls!

FIRST EGG!!!!

We're pretty sure it's from our girl Christina (in first picture), an Americauna. DH found it on the porch of the chicken coop between the feeder and the flock block. Not bad for her first time... it almost measures up the the "large" egg from the grocery store!

Fun Free-Ranging!

Irie (one of our Rhode Island Reds) is pretty adventurous. She climbed the stairs to our deck to check out our two curious cats, Smokey (left) and Chloe:)
